Friday, September 13th, 2024, was a memorable day as Action 4 Health Uganda (A4HU), in partnership with DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung), launched the second Cohort of the POWER accelerator project at Bonita Training Centre Lubowa.
To strengthen social entrepreneurship and meaningful youth participation in advancing solutions to address SRHR/FP Challenges in Uganda, A4HU is implementing a project- Providing Opportunities for Women in Entrepreneurship and Reproductive Health (POWER).
The POWER project is focused on empowering up to 24 young women entrepreneurs, specifically those aged 18-30, with knowledge and skills in sexual reproductive health and rights and family planning. Following the successful outcomes of the first cohort in 2022-2023, during which 12 startups were established and have since flourished, creating employment opportunities in Uganda, a new cohort has been selected. Twenty women business leaders were chosen from the Youth Empowerment Centers and Youth Clubs under the A4HU jurisdiction and the private sector. They are set to undergo intensive yet adaptable 12-month Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator training at the Bonita Training Centre, located at the A4HU head offices in Lubowa.
To ensure the project’s sustainability, a Multisectoral Investment Fund (MIF) has been launched to support young women entrepreneurs. This fund is designed to provide financial support to women entrepreneurs graduating from the accelerator project, covering four critical areas: credit financing, asset financing for productive assets, investment financing for startup capital, and matching grants to boost startup operations.
We are highly expectant of all the stories of change and impact that will arise from the new cohort of the POWER Accelerator project 2024-2025 as we inspire young people to realize their full potential.
